7 Useful Garden Tools

Garden tools are extremely useful and can help make gardening much easier and more enjoyable. With so many garden tools out there, choosing the best can be a difficult decision, especially if you are a beginner gardener. Here is a list of seven really useful garden tools that will help jump start your gardening experience or make it much better.

Originally used by Japanese bonzai enthusiasts, the hori hori knife is a tool that has multiple purposes. With a concave blade, the knife can be used for digging, transplanting, weeding and more. It also has ruled lines that help in measure the soil.

The hori hori knife also makes a great all-purpose knife that can be used in many other situations. It is made of stainless steel and is very sharp, allowing it to cut very thick plants or weeds.

The hori hori knife also comes with a sturdy vinyl sheath that has a belt loop attachment and a retainer strap keeping your knife protected when it’s not in use.

It is available from CleanAirGardening.com for $34.99.

2.Electronic Soil Tester

One major factor of successful gardening is proper soil conditions. Plants are as individual and picky about their soils as we humans can be about our foods. This electronic soil tester instantly measures four important growth factors including: soil pH, soil moisture, light intensity and total combined nitrogen and phosphorus and potash levels (NPK).

Testing soil for these things is not something everyone considers when they garden, but it can really help determine a plants success. It can also determine what plants are right for your soil or what soil and/or nutrients are right for your plants. Having an electronic soil tester during the gardening season can give a gardener a good idea of things to change if a plant is struggling to survive.

This soil tester includes a pH preference list, a soil moisture guide and a light level chart to help any level gardener have a successful garden. It is available from Clean Air Gardening for $37.99.

3.Cape Cod Weeder

Another multi-purpose tool is the Cape Cod weeder that helps you weed in a variety of gardening situations. This weeder is made in Holland from an ash hardwood handle and a forged steel blade. With this tool, you can weed out cracks in sidewalks and bricks, weed next to walls, in tight corners, up next to plants, and dig in with the pointed end and drag multiple weeds out at a time.

Get a right-handed and a left-handed weeder and use both hands to get more weeds, faster.

This Cape Cod weeder is available for $26.99 from Clean Air Gardening.

4.Grampa’s Weeder

Weeding plants can sometimes be strenuous on your legs, back and/or arms, but this weeder allows you to get the weeds from the roots without bending over to pull them. Designed in the early 1900s, this ergonomic tool is still easy to use.

To pull weeds with grandpa’s weeder, simply center the weeder over a weed with the footpad lever pointing to either the right or left foot, press your foot on the footpad lever and push grandpa’s weeder into the ground around the weed, remove your foot and tilt the handle toward the footpad lever and out comes the weed!

This weeder is extremely useful in the garden for any age gardener. It is available from CleanAirGardening.com for $29.99.

5. Circle Hoe

The circle hoe, unlike some weeders does not pull the soil with it, which can significantly cut down on the time spent having to readjust the soil. Also, being really light, and easy to hold, this hoe allows any gardener to garden with detail.

The circle hoe is available from Clean Air Gardening for $13.99.
