Get your hummingbird feeder for home.

December 8th, 2008 . by chris

Everybody loves a good hummingbird feeder in the backyard. It’s true. These birds are interesting to watch and can really bring a sense of calm to someone. Maybe it’s because of how they seem to just hover, even while their wings are moving so fast. In any case, this Hummingbird Feeder Kit will not only make an excellent gift, but it can really help boost the appearance of your lawn or garden – and not just in an aesthetic sense either. Gardens that receive regular visits from hummingbirds produce bigger fruit, more fruit, and are just generally more productive. In essence, it improves focus all across the board.

This hummingbird feeder in particular is really cool, it’s built specifically to cater towards the hummingbird and to leave insects, squirrels and other animals left behind. It is also made from the highest grade of FDA approved plastic – meaning that hummingbirds will always be protected from any chemical exposure. Cleaning this feeder in particular is a breeze as well. Everything has been thought of and taken care of in making this product.

These shoes were made for aerating

December 1st, 2008 . by chris

Let’s face it: your lawn gets walked on repeatedly. Whether it’s while mowing, the kids playing around or just guests walking up to your front door, all of this action on the lawn can have significant effects on the health and appearance of your grass. Hence, it is vital that the soil continues to receive the proper nutrients in order to keep it healthy and strong.

A perfect way to keep your lawn aerated and healthy is a pair of lawn areator shoes. These sandals easily fit over your shoes, and the long spikes on the bottom will penetrate deep into the soil. This creates air pockets in compacted soil, meaning there’s more room for the soil to breathe. In turn, it’s easier for water and nutrients to reach down into the roots of the soil, ensuring a healthy lawn.

It’s a pretty cool product, and it’s something that isn’t time consuming to do. You could even strap these sandals on your feet while you’ve got your mower out. Essentially, it would be doing two jobs at once. Perfect.

Consider a compost crock for Christmas

November 25th, 2008 . by libba
ceramic compost crock

ceramic compost crock

A compost crock is such an excellent thing to have around the house. This holiday season, when you are looking for new gift ideas, consider a cermaic white compost crock.

This compost crock has a carbon filter (as to prevent any gnarly smells coming out), and holds 1 gallon of material. At $39.99, it’s a small price to pay for the amount of convenience this provides. As one cooks, they can just throw food scraps and peelings in the compost crock and then take it out to the compost pile or bin every few days. This means that if you want to enjoy a banana, go right ahead – and don’t worry about running outside immediately to toss it in the pile – just take it out there with some other stuff in a few days. Compost crocks are convenient, and an excellent tool for the fan of composting. The white ceramic will fit nicely in the kitchen as well. A compost crock as like this one makes an excellent gardening gift.

Divert that rainwater somewhere useful

November 24th, 2008 . by chris

Rain water is a thing that many don’t realize can be saved and used for many different things. Think about it – rain water that falls off your roof typically just goes to waste. However, you can do something about it. By purchasing a Rain Water Diverter, you can channel the rain into a rain barrel, or reroute the rain water to anything else you feel might need watering, such as plants, ponds, areas of the lawn that don’t receive enough sun and even fountain basins.

A nice feature to this rain water diverter is that it can be flipped between on and off positions, meaning you can really regulate how and when you use the water. In addition, you can use it to prevent runoff and the erosion that occurs with it. Basically, it’s a way to preserve the sanctity of your lawn or garden and conserve and reuse a natural resource while doing so.

A naural way to kill weeds.

November 20th, 2008 . by chris

Prevent weeds from destroying your soil and your crops. Protect that which you have worked so hard to produce from the very start. By incorporating the use of the Weed Guard Plus, you can stop the spread of weeds right from the very start. The way it works is pretty simple: place the Weed Guard Plus down on the soil when you are planting. Cut holes in the material for any bulbs for anything you are going to lay down. It allows weeds not to be able to get a strong foothold in the soil, and will even boost your crop gain by up to 20%.

This product is also made from recycled cellulose fiber. This means that it eventually breaks down and does not release any harmful chemicals into the soil. In addition, since you only cut holes in the material for the plants/bulbs sunlight does not get to any other areas…thus further preventing the spread of weeds.

The Weed Guard Plus is a nice way to keep the beauty of your lawn and garden while still avoiding weed infestation. It breaks down without the aid of chemicals, and goes to the soil. All in all, it’s a positive situation.

Keep that mower blade sharp when working on your lawn!

November 15th, 2008 . by chris

Sharper mower blades are commonly overlooked on most household mowers – from gas to electric, to even reel mowers. More often than not, it seems as if people are just letting the blade go unsharpened for years over time. When you think about it, this is really funny, because the sharper the blade, the easier the lawn is to mow. Making the lawn easier to mow means…well, more time to work in the garden after you are done. Or, it could also mean a quicker time to a nice cold beverage. It’s a toss up depending on the individual.

Anyway, you work hard enough. Look into a Blade Sharpener to sharpen that lawnmower blade. It comes with a safety guard to make sure you won’t slice any part of your fingers off. Cutting is your enemy. Still, it’s probably a good idea to remove the blade from the mower first and follow safety guidelines anyway.

Like a bug zapper for weeds

November 3rd, 2008 . by chris

Killing weeds by zapping them? No, it’s not some sort of crazy sci-fi related technique. It’s a new way to attack weeds right at the source, stopping normal plant functions and killing the weed at the root. The Electric Weed Zapper is a pretty unique invention in that sense. It is able to kill the weed at the root by using thermogenic energy.

The process is simple: place the weed zapper on top of the weed that you wish to destroy. Press it down. Let it stay down 3 seconds for normal size weeds, or 8 seconds for really big ones. And there you go. No harmful chemicals, you can be weed specific and target individual weeds as well – this is nice because it means you don’t run the risk of killing surrounding plants, as you do if you are using a spray or chemical weed killer.

Also, let’s be honest…the concept of a weed zapper is just cool. For women, it’s a perfect way to get your husband out there zapping weeds…guys will love this tool. It’s only 6 pounds so no worries in regards to heavy lifting. Just pick this weed zapper up and reclaim yourself as king of the garden.

A portable, solar shower

October 30th, 2008 . by chris

It’s a nice alternative to those of you who want to embrace your inner hippie, because well…at least in this case you are showering. Of course, the neighbors might be a little apprehensive at first when you set this shower up. Possible suggestions include setting it up in the backyard, near a pool, next to your RV camper or maybe you just feel like showering outside (swimsuits suggested).

Here’s how it works: a base tank on the shower holds water than can be heated by the sun in as little as two hours. After the water is heated, it’s a quick flick of a switch and you’ve got an all natural, soothing shower. The water is warm as well…reaching temperatures of about 86 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s a nice alternative, and certainly good for those of you who enjoy spending time outdoors. On the other hand, if you’ve just always wanted to take a shower in your backyard then go ahead…just make sure you are out of the view of your neighbors first.
